Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are grown in the region of Muscadet in the Loire Valley, but the grapes are almost always used to make sparkling wines. Fred Niger of Domaine de L’Ecu is pioneering the production of still red wines in the region with his cuvees Mephisto, Ange and Red Noz. Fred Niger explains how red wines are made near Nante, and how much effort one has to put to be able to deliver a good red wine.
