SERVES 4 | 5 MINUTES PREP | 5 MINUTES COOKING
2 Oranges
1/2 Lemon
100g Caster sugar
6 Cloves
1 Cinnamon Sticks
1 Bottle of Italian red wine
Empty a bottle of red wine into a deep saucepan. Grate the zest of one of the oranges into a saucepan and squeeze in the juice.
Grate the zest of the lemon into the saucepan and squeeze the juice into too.
Dice the remaining orange into 6 segments and stud with a clove – place them in the pan. Add the cinnamon sticks.
Add sugar to taste, stirring it to ensure that it has all dissolved.
Pop on a medium heat. Do not let us boil! As your mulled wine simmers away it will be infused with the flavours of the fruit and spices – so keep it going on a low heat and serve as and when you need it. At a Christmas party. When friends unexpectedly drop by. When you’re bored and home alone. Every day is a mulled wine day.
TIP: This is the cheapest way to make mulled wine without losing its distinctive flavour (in my opinion).
