Ted began his winemaking career by receiving an Enology degree from the Université de Dijon, France in 1981. He was the first American ever selected as winemaker/vineyard manager of a Burgundian estate. He has been consultant to a number of prominent wineries in the California and Oregon, and co-founded Burn Cottage Vineyard in the Central Otago region of New Zealand. Ted and Heidi Lemon began Littorai Wines in 1993, producing vineyard designated Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from west Sonoma County and Anderson Valley. Since the late 1990s, all of the vineyards Littorai owns or leases have been farmed using biodynamic methods and Ted has helped transition most of the vineyards from which Littorai purchases fruit to biodynamic methods. He was nominated for a James Beard award as Wine and Spirits Professional of the year in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
