Beginner
Having recently visited China our Wine Director, David Allen MW tastes one of the quality Chinese wines he tasted while he was there Xige Estate’s N50 Ningxia Red 2019. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Gerneisht, he found it really enjoyable.

Xige Estate (meaning West Dove) is named after the nearby West Dove Lake. Is a winery in the Qintongxia (Dove Mountain) sub-region of the Helan Mountain Wine Region in Ningxia province. The winery is about an hour’s drive south of the city of Yinchuan.

The estate was founded in 2017 when its owners purchased 1,000 hectares of vines that had been planted in the early 2000s as part of a poverty alleviation scheme. They have subsequently built a 25,000 sq. meter, state of the art winery and planted another 1,000 hectares of vines. They aim to have a production of 10 million bottles a year in the next few years.

Wines made here include the Jade Dove Cabernet Gernischt, Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Malbec & Cabernet Sauvignon.
