Values & Variety: The Red Wines of Piedmont

Wine Types
The region of Piedmont is world-renowned for being the home to many of Italy’s greatest red wines. At the same time, this viticultural paradise produces some of the most food friendly and best value reds anywhere. In this class, we will explore the three main red grape varieties of Piedmont: Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo. Featuring Dolcetto from the family operated Luigi Einuadi winery (the second President of the Republic of Italy), delicious Barbera of Villa Giada grown within an UNESCO World Heritage Site and aged in a two-hundred-year-old cellar, and finally the complex yet approachable Nebbiolo from the Angelo Negro estate that was founded in 1670. These wines all showcase Piedmont’s ability to create unique wines from a region with nearly 2,500 years of history, while at the same time are all thoroughly modern.
